It's always possible that something won't layer properly even with a prerequisite. It can't hurt to test, and I don't really know how to tell whether an addin is user-specific or machine-wide, so I suspect you'll be doing a bunch of testing and research.Īlso, it's possible in some circumstances that you really need to install the addins or whatever in the Office (or Chrome) layer directly. Or maybe you could layer the installers, at least, and then GPO the install. You may have to figure out a way to install them via GPO instead of trying to layer them. You can't layer things that are user-specific. I know that Excel addins are user-specific, and I believe that Outlook plugins are as well. I suspect that Chrome plugins are specific to the user profile rather than machine-wide. The main concern for me is whether the addins are user-specific or machine-wide. The layering priority order is by creation time of the first version, which guarantees that any layer used as a prerequisite will always be below the thing that used it (as it should be). That assumes everything just works and there are no complications. The easiest way is to just use Office (or Chrome) as a layer prerequisite when creating the add-in layer.
